Friends of Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt is an organization I work with, and I wanted to share info on some of the good work we’ve been doing and let you know about some holiday shopping opportunities. Here’s a link to their website, for general info: http://www.childrenshospital.vanderbilt.org/friends.
I got involved with Friends last year, after several years of thinking about it and talking about it. Having two children under the age of four really takes up a lot of one’s time! I’m so glad I finally took the step to become a Friend. I have met some truly inspiring people, and I can’t say enough good things about the work this organization does. I wanted to get involved to try and make a difference for the kids staying at the hospital, as well as their families. A stay at the hospital is never the way anyone wants to spend their time, and the Friends not only raise money for the hospital, but they do lots of other things to help the children and their families have a more enjoyable stay. Well, as enjoyable as a hospital stay can be.
One of the big projects I’ve been helping with is the Holiday Project. Our one-of-a-kind holiday items were designed by children whose lives have been touched by Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital. At our meeting last week, we met Jessica, an amazing young woman who designed one of the holiday cards. She shared her story and talked about the ways the Friends programs have impacted her. Considering the rough road she’s traveled, I was awestruck by her positive attitude and message of hope. Here’s a video showing her year of treatment at Vanderbilt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vABHxx4Efg&sns=em, and here’s the card she designed:

I’ll be posting more info later about ordering holiday cards, events, etc. For now, though, I just wanted to share Jessica’s video and encourage anyone who may be interested in getting involved to visit the Friends website to learn more. I am so happy to be a part of this incredible organization!
